News Release
SYRACUSE — Does a friend or family member live in the town of Syracuse or Turkey Creek Township and doesn’t have a library card? If yes, encourage them to sign up for a card at the Syracuse-Turkey Creek Township Public Library this September during National Library Card Sign-up Month.
Resident library cards have no added cost since they are paid for by residents’ tax dollars. Beyond gaining access to a wealth of reading materials and DVDs, SPL library card holders can visit and check materials out from any Evergreen Indiana library, including Milford, North Webster or Ligonier to name a few. SPL patrons can also use digital resources like Libby or Hoopla to read e-books; listen to audio books and music albums; or watch television shows, movies and documentaries. Hotspots are another popular item at the Syracuse Public Library and help connect patrons with the internet in their homes or wherever they may roam.
As a bonus, everyone who signs up for a new library card in September will be entered into a drawing for a chance to win a $50 Amazon gift card. All ages are included in the drawing.
Syracuse Public Library also offers non-resident library cards, available at a rate set by the state of Indiana. Those who sign up for a non-resident library card will also be eligible to take part in the drawing.

Children’s Programming
Join story time at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 6, in the children’s department for stories, play and song. Story time is perfect for preschool-aged children. Children’s librarian Megan Daumen focuses on the alphabet and has also worked in some Spanish and sign language. Each meeting usually ends with a craft.
Homeschool class will meet at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 6, in the downstairs meeting room. This session will be for lower elementary school children — first through third grade — and will explore “What is Labor Day?”
Young Adults Video Gaming
Young adults are invited to young adult video gaming from 4-7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 7, in the Rosalyn Jones Room. Group members play on the library’s Nintendo Switch, with “Super Smash Bros.” being a popular option.
Bistro Book Club
SPL and North Webster Community Public Library have the right book club for coffeehouse and eatery enthusiasts. Bistro Book Club explores fiction and local eateries each month. For September, the club is reading “The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo” by Taylor Jenkins Reid before it is adapted into a Netflix movie. Both libraries have copies of the novel available. The discussion will occur at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 9, at The River Coffeehouse in North Webster.
