Milford Public Library — LEGO Saturdays Begin Again

Rebecca, Hannah and Gabe Sherman finished the Stick Together-Let’s Read mosaic poster the Milford Public Library had for everyone to work on all summer long. The poster is on display in the children’s department. Good job, everyone! Photo provided by the library.

Library staff will vote on their favorite creation and the winner will take home a brand new LEGO kit. The challenge will change every month. This activity is for parents and their children, age preschool through eighth grade.
September Is Library Card Sign-Up Month
Since 1987, Library Card Sign-Up Month has been held each September to mark the beginning of the school year. During the month, the American Library Association and libraries unite in a national effort to ensure every child signs up for their own library card. During the month of September, be sure to stop by the library and sign up for a card. You need to bring a photo ID with your current address or a utility bill or bank statement with the correct address.
Milford Public Library serves Van Buren and East Jefferson Townships. If you live in either of these townships, your library card is paid through your property taxes. If you are a student, teacher or staff member in Wawasee Community School Corporation, they can issue you a library card. If you are a non-resident, you can purchase a card for $60 for a year. Come to the adult circulation desk and ask to register for a library card. It only takes a few minutes.
Make A Mini Masterpiece
During the month of September, create a magnificent masterpiece of something you love. Register to participate in the mini masterpiece contest and pick up a 3-by-3 canvas, easel and paint at the adult or children’s circulation desk. Make sure your name and age is on the back of your canvas when you turn it in before end-of-business on Saturday, Sept. 23.
The mini masterpieces will be on display above the adult collection of DVDs in the adult/teen area of the library until Sept. 30. Patrons can vote for their favorite masterpiece from Monday, Sept. 25, through Saturday, Sept. 30. Winners will be announced the first week of October. The age levels will be preschool; kindergarten through fifth grade; sixth through 12th grade (teens); 18-54 years (adult); and 55 years old and up (seniors). You will be registered for the contest when you pick up a kit. Supplies are limited, so please come in to the library and register soon.
