Wheels On Fire Reports ‘Record Crowd’ At Smash Out Cancer
News Release
WARSAW — Beaver Dam Church’s Wheels on Fire-Cancer Crusaders had a “record crowd” at its Smash Out Cancer fundraising event.
That’s according to a press release from the group.
The event was on Saturday, Aug. 19, at the Akron Community Center.
Entertaining the crowd with a mix of genres were singers Ed Rock, Mike Bowers and Kylene Crabb. There was also an auction called by Brent Markley. Thirty-six items, including furniture, sports memorabilia and passes, artwork, restaurant certificates and more, were sold to the highest bidder. One highlight of the auction was 10-year-old Cole Nelson wanted to auction off 10 pounds of ground beef from his meat market.
The pie auction followed the live auction, with 59 pies, cakes and cupcakes. This year kettle corn was included in the auction. Top honors for pie sale went to Karen Francis with her mother’s recipe for peaches and cream pie.
To end the evening, Wheels On Fire remembered those lost to cancer and honored those still in the fight and who have won the battle. Names were read, and candles were illuminated and placed on a custom ribbon display made by team member Dave Morehouse.
Wheels On Fire would like to thank all of those who attended the event, donated items for the auction, baked pies or cakes or helped at the event, and all of those who support their ministry.
