The NIPSCO project will take place in the area highlighted in blue.
Press Release
OSWEGO — NIPSCO will soon be working on a short-term project involving electric wire and utility pole upgrades in the Oswego and Tippecanoe Lake area.
The company will be upgrading and replacing about 11 miles of electrical wire and 318 wood utility poles, as well as several transformers and switches.
Pre-construction work and the framing of poles will occur from mid-August through the end of September. Construction will start in October and end in January 2024.
Work will occur from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. On occasion, NIPSCO may need to work evenings and weekends to honor customer appointments and deadlines. Schedules are weather dependent.
Those in the construction area can expect the following:
- Prep work. To make sure no other underground utilities are damaged by this work, NIPSCO representatives will call 811 to have the public utilities marked with flags, stakes and temporary paint. Please do not remove these markings.
- Assess project path. Obstructions in utility easements, such as fences and landscapes, may need to be removed.
- Access to your property. If NIPSCO needs access to your yard and/or if there are any issues within the path of construction, NIPSCO representatives will reach out to you directly.
- Minimal service interruptions are expected to occur. NIPSCO representatives will notify you ahead of time if a planned outage is needed.
- Clean up. After the project is complete, NIPSCO representatives will put back fences, lay black dirt and reseed. Please remember to water the new seed so it grows. If the project is complete during the winter months, clean-up may not happen until next spring.
Work zone safety tips:
- Temporary road and lane closures may occur. Signs will be posted ahead of time and detours will be in place.
- Drive with caution around work zones. Follow the direction of traffic signs and on-site crew. NIPSCO representatives will do their best to keep traffic flowing whenever possible.
- Keep family and pets safe by staying away from construction areas.
