Plans For New Sheriff’s Office Building
News Release
LAGRANGE — After multiple years of planning, a new building for the LaGrange County Sheriff’s Office is finally in the works.
LSCO has estimated the cost at around $400,000, but their bid must be accepted and awarded before construction can begin. The goal is to build right off the parking lot of the jail property, east of Ind. 9, over a construction period of six months. No builder has been chosen yet.
Taxpayer dollars will be not used as payment for the new building. Instead, it will be paid for with American Rescue Plan Act funds provided by the government.
While plans have been in the works for two years, talks of a new building have been happening for almost eight years. Over the last several years, the office’s need for more space and a secure place to store vehicles has increased.
The maintenance technician is in need of more storage space, and the office does not currently have a secure detective bay, which would make it easier to safely transport and secure prisoners. The new building will include a larger training center for officers and secure vehicle storage, which will protect the vehicles from weather and vandalism.
The new building will also be serving a dual purpose as a command central area. In case of events such as a natural disasters, an emergency vehicle can easily be dispatched to pull other vehicles out.
