CULVER — Two people were arrested in Marshall County after endangering a young child.
Cheryl Straws, 34, Troy, Ill., is charged with neglect of a dependent and operating a vehicle while intoxicated – endangerment, both level 6 felonies; and operating a vehicle with an alcohol concentration equivalent to 0.15 or more, a class A misdemeanor.
Vincente R. Yanez, 34, Williamsburg, Va., is charged with neglect of a dependent, a level 6 felony.
On July 13, the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department received a report of a reckless driver on SR 10. The driver hit a median and curbs near Culver Military Academy.
Officers with MCSD and Culver Police Department pulled the vehicle over and identified the driver as Straws.
According to court documents, shortly after discovering Straws, law enforcement received a report of a man, who appeared intoxicated, knocking on doors. Straws told police she was looking for the man, later identified as Yanez.
She said she and Yanez had an argument, with Yanez jumping out of the vehicle. Officers also saw a young child and a dog in the vehicle.
Officers noticed Straws exhibiting signs of intoxication and a blood test registered a 0.198 BAC.
Both Straws and Yanez were booked in the Marshall County Jail on July 13.
