UPDATE: 2 Extricated, 1 Flown After Wreck On Old 30 East

PIERCETON — The drivers of both vehicles involved in a wreck on Old US 30 East on Saturday, July 22, had to be extricated, and one was flown by medical helicopter from the accident scene.
The accident happened at 2:33 p.m. west of CR 600E, northwest of Pierceton.
According to a Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office accident report, Jo-Lee R. Barnes, 34, EMS B34 Lane, Leesburg, was traveling on Old US 30 East in a red 2014 Chevrolet Spark. She said she didn’t remember anything.
Mackenzie A. Gunter, 24, Rainbow Circle, Kokomo, was also traveling on Old US 30 East in a blue 2002 Honda CR-V. She said she briefly glanced down at her cellphone, and when she looked up, Barnes’ vehicle was coming at her head-on.
Police observed a cut on the pavement, leading them to confirm Barnes crossed the center line, ending up in Gunter’s path of travel.
First responders extricated both drivers. Barnes, who had abdomen/pelvis injuries, was flown by Lutheran Air to the hospital. Gunter, who had injuries to her knee/lower leg/foot, was transported by ambulance.
Damage is estimated up to $50,000.

The driver of the other vehicle in the wreck, this 2002 Honda CR-V, Mackenzie A. Gunter, 24, Rainbow Circle, Kokomo, was transported by ambulance.
