WARSAW — A Warsaw man will serve a five-year sentence locally after threatening and battering a woman.
Eddie Valentino Harmon, 42, Warsaw, was charged with intimidation with a deadly weapon, a level 5 felony; pointing a firearm at a person, a level 6 felony; and domestic battery, a class A misdemeanor. An unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon charge was dismissed as part of a plea agreement.
Harmon was sentenced in Kosciusko Superior Court One on Thursday, July 20.
For intimidation, Kosciusko Superior Court One Judge Karin McGrath sentenced Harmon to five years in the Indiana Department of Correction, with three years executed and two years suspended on probation. He also received a two-year prison sentence for pointing a firearm and a one-year prison sentence for domestic battery. The pointing a firearm and domestic battery charges will be served concurrently to the intimidation charge.
In total, Harmon received a five-year sentence, with three years executed and two years on probation. Harmon is allowed to serve the executed portion through Kosciusko County Community Corrections.
A no-contact order between Harmon and the victim in this case remains in effect. The firearm used in this incident will be returned to its owner, and Harmon is not allowed to possess firearms.
Harmon has 377 days of jail time credit.
At sentencing, Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Joseph Sobek described Harmon as respectful, noting several letter of support from Kosciusko County Jail staff. Harmon is also a jail trustee.
However, he asked McGrath to consider the victim’s fear of Harmon in her sentencing.
Defense Attorney Nick Jacobs said Harmon had been accepted to Michiana Community Corrections and had correspondence with KCCC as well.
“I’ve never seen so many letters of support from those who work in the jail,” said Jacobs.
“What I did was terribly wrong,” said Harmon. “My actions should’ve never taken place at all.”
McGrath said she spent a lot of time thinking about the type of sentence to give Harmon.
“You are fully capable of being a great person,” said McGrath.
On July 8, 2022, a Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office deputy responded to a domestic dispute in Warsaw.
A woman said Harmon threatened to kill her multiple times, placed a firearm close to her face, and hit her about five times.
