MENTONE — Concerns about the condition of the railroad tracks in Mentone have come up again.
At the Mentone Town Council’s meeting on Wednesday, July 5, Town Utilities Superintendent Josh Shepherd brought up the topic, referring to the deteriorating Norfolk Southern tracks, which cross SR 25 and SR 19.
Town leaders had previously voiced safety concerns that motorcycles or horses and buggies could be involved in wrecks while crossing the tracks. In February 2022, temporary repairs were made.
“They never really fixed them,” noted Town Council Member Tim Croy on Wednesday.
“The ones running north and south are horrible now, absolutely horrible,” said Shepherd. “I can’t believe that’s the way it is.”
Town Council Member Shelly Krueger is to contact people to see if the tracks can be repaired.
