Warsaw’s Zimmer Biomet Earns National Safety Council Award
News Release
WARSAW — Zimmer Biomet was recently honored with the National Safety Council Occupational Excellence Achievement Award.
The National Safety Council recognizes organizations with injury and illness records better than 50 percent of the Bureau of Labor Statistics average for their industry, and zero fatalities during the previous calendar year.
The lost time injury rate for the medical device industry was 1.00 in 2022, which means on average, a medical device company will have one serious injury for every 100 employees. Warsaw had a lost time injury rate of 0.03, the equivalent of one injury for every 3,000 employees. This achievement is not only better than 50 percent of the industry average, but it also lands Warsaw in the top 4 percentile nationwide.
“We’ve established a safety culture at ZB that ensures we not only look out for our own safety, but rather the safety of all who work within our facilities,” said Shawn Fergison, vice president of operations. “Our focus isn’t on being perfect or never making a mistake; it’s about making a commitment to our team members to return to our family and friends in the same condition as when we left our homes that morning.”
This is the third year in a row that Zimmer Biomet has received this safety award.
“I couldn’t be prouder of the teams at both campuses for joining forces to make sure ZB is a safe place to work,” said Blaine Stookey, environment, health and safety associate director. “It’s a testament to the commitment and engagement of our workforce to drive our flagship programs such as Good Saves and Behavior Based Safety. Our team members provide the steam to power these programs, and they are pushing full steam ahead.”
