WARSAW — A Mishawaka man was recently arrested during an undercover drug bust.
James Donte Jacobs, 29, Mishawaka, is charged with conspiring to commit dealing methamphetamine, a level 2 felony.
On June 13, a Warsaw Police officer with the NET 43 Drug Task Force met with an informant who said they made arrangements to purchase 1 1/2 pounds of meth from Jacobs in exchange for $3,600.
According to court documents, through phone conversations and text messages, Jacobs planned to meet with the informant at a restaurant in Warsaw. However, while speaking with the informant, Jacobs became suspicious and wanted to check the informant’s phone.
Jacobs later told the informant he left the drugs in nearby bushes and asked them to leave the money in the restaurant’s bathroom.
Officers took Jacobs into custody and the informant provided officers with a crystallized substance testing positive for barium sulfate, which weighed one pound.
The officer also had knowledge the South Bend Narcotics Unit had purchased meth from Jacobs on three separate occasions.
Jacobs has prior convictions for cocaine possession and carrying a handgun without a license. At the time of this case, he had an active arrest warrant for driving while suspended and operating a vehicle without a license.
For this case, Jacobs was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail on June 13, with a $50,250 surety and cash bond.
