Local Family Seeks To Set a Guinness World Record In Winona Lake
Press Release
KOSCIUSKO COUNTY — Local family seeks to set a Guinness World Record for the longest chain of floating inflatables
on Winona Lake in Northern Indiana and raise awareness of ALS and they want the community to join in.
On July 22, the family of Anje Anglin is leading an attempt to set a world record for the
longest chain of floating inflatables on Winona Lake in Northern Indiana. Anje Anglin was
diagnosed with ALS in March 2022 and the family seeks to raise awareness of this disease and
also funds to assist Anje with her medical expenses while having fun celebrating community on
the beautiful Winona Lake.
This idea was formed by Anje’s niece, Erin Serafino, last summer, when she was thinking about how to connect the beautiful lakes of Kosciusko County with a Guinness World Record. In August, the aunt reached out to her children and Erin, saying she wanted to put on some kind of awareness event, such as a walk or a 5k. This was when Serafino connected the two ideas and suggested they do a Guiness World Record Breaking event in order to bring awareness to ALS.
Participation in the world record attempt is free. The current world record is 0.62 miles. The
attempt this year is to set a 1-mile record. It is anticipated that it will take approximately 1400
people on inflatables and an hour or two of time on the morning of July 22. Launch from shore
to lake will begin at 10 am. The family would like to thank the Kosciusko County Fair Board for
their willingness to allow participants to park at the west side of the fairgrounds and enter the
lake from the fairgrounds.
Participants must register online in advance. Details and updates will be distributed via email to
those that register.
Participation in this event is at your own risk. Please drink and consume responsibly. Children
who cannot swim should not participate. All participants should wear a life vest.
All inflatables must be tied or clipped to inflatables on either side to form a chain without gaps.
All participants must remain in the chain long enough for official surveying and videography
required for Guinness submissions to take place.
The family wishes to thank Kosciusko County Fairgrounds, DreamOn Studios, Kimpel &
Associates Surveying, Warsaw Police Department, Indiana State Police, Indiana DNR, and The
Town of Winona Lake.
If you or your business would like to volunteer time or resources, please contact Erin Serafino at
(574) 253-8367.
The Warsaw Police Dive Team will be helping plan logistics and has brought in the Indiana State Police to help with everything as well, in order for the event to run smoothly. Volunteers will be needed to help have people sign waivers and instruct people on what to do when they enter the water.
