Popular Dog Breed Internet Searches In Indiana Cities Analyzed
News Release
NEW YORK — The Cane Corso is the most popular dog breed in five out of six major cities in Indiana.
Research by pet financial assistance site MyPetChild.com analyzed a list of 284 dog breeds recognized by the American Kennel Club and used Google’s data to reveal the most searched-for dog breed in each major U.S. city.
The Cane Corso was found to be the most searched dog breed in five out of six major cities in Indiana, including South Bend, Fort Wayne and Evansville.
The Cane Corso is an Italian breed of mastiff, whose lineage dates back to ancient Roman times, and whose name roughly translates from Latin to mean “bodyguard dog.” Corsi, whose lifespan is between nine and 12 years, are typically muscular in frame and their protective nature makes them a great family dog, provided they are properly socialized.
The Australian shepherd was found to be the second most popular, ranking as the second most searched-for breed in four cities.
This breed’s name is somewhat misleading as they were actually developed in California during the 19th century and are believed to have come from a variety of herding dogs, imported to the state from Australia and New Zealand. These long-haired working ranch dogs are very intelligent and have maintained their natural impulse to herd.
The French bulldog was found to be another popular breed, ranking as the second most searched in three cities.
The French bulldog is a result of crossbreeding toy bulldogs imported from England with French ratters. The breed, which was the most popular in 2022 by number of American Kennel Club registrations, typically have a large, squared head, and heavy wrinkles above a short snubby nose. French bulldogs are also characterized by their batlike ears and typically live for between 10 and 12 years.
The six Indiana cities in the study and their top three most searched-for dog breeds were:
Carmel: Australian shepherd, Cane Corso, Bernese mountain dog
Evansville: Cane Corso, Australian shepherd, French bulldog
Fishers: Cane Corso, Australian shepherd, Bernese mountain dog
Fort Wayne: Cane Corso, Australian shepherd, French bulldog
South Bend: Cane Corso, French bulldog, Australian shepherd
Methodology: 284 dog breeds officially recognized by the American Kennel Club were included in the study. Each was entered into Google Keyword Planner to find the number of monthly searches for each breed in the 328 most populated cities in America.
