Claypool To Celebrate Sesquicentennial In Mid-June

CLAYPOOL — Members from the Someplace Else Saloon, Claypool United Methodist Church and the Claypool Lions Club have come together to help organize and host the town’s sesquicentennial celebrations Friday, June 16, through Saturday, June 17.
Kicking off the celebrations on Friday, there will be an ice cream social 4-8 p.m. at the fire station.
Claypool United Methodist Church will be hosting a display that will be open both days for the community to walk through and learn about the history in Claypool.
A kiddie parade will take place at 6 p.m. Friday north to south on Main Street, with awards and a kid-friendly DJ starting at 7 p.m.
Beginning Saturday, there will be a breakfast 7-10 a.m. at the fire station. There will also be a 5K taking place at 8 a.m Saturday.
Vendors will be located at Calhoun and Main Street for the duration of the event.
At 11 a.m., there will be another parade for the community to enjoy. Lineup will begin at 10 a.m. at the Claypool Elementary School, and awards will follow at noon. There will be sign-up sheets to participate in the parade located at the Someplace Else Saloon.
At 1 p.m. there will be a cornhole contest by the old bank.
Throughout the day, there will be a car show and tractor show to browse on Main Street.
Kids’ games will be located at the Lions Club’s building, followed by kid’s contests at the same location beginning at 2 p.m.
From 2-6 p.m., there will be two bands performing at the celebration. Gunslinger will be opening and then, Highway 30 will be headlining. These will be located on Main Street and will be broadcast into a grassy lot for spectators.
