COLUMBIA CITY — A Columbia City teenager was recently arrested for allegedly raping an individual under the age of 18.
Riley W. Kessie, 19, 2 Jeffery Drive, Columbia City, is charged with rape, a level 3 felony; and two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor, both class A misdemeanors.
On May 19, a Columbia City Police officer spoke with an individual regarding a sex crime. The individual said they were told Kessie was having sexual intercourse with someone under the age of 18.
On May 20, Columbia City Police officers spoke with the victim about their interactions with Kessie.
According to court documents, the victim said they invited Kessie over to their home. Kessie brought vodka to the residence. The victim said they drank so much they “blacked out” and when they woke up, they and Kessie were having sex.
They told officers Kessie said they consented to having sex, but said they were so intoxicated they did not remember giving consent.
Officers then collected physical evidence from where the alleged rape occurred while the victim went to a sexual assault treatment center in Fort Wayne.
In an interview with officers, Kessie said he blocked the victim on social media since people were starting rumors about them sleeping together, which Kessie initially denied.
Kessie told officers he and the victim drank alcohol and smoked marijuana. He initially said he and the victim did not have sexual intercourse, but as the interview progressed, Kessie said they had sex.
Kessie was booked in the Whitley County Jail on May 20.
