Plenty Happening At Goshen Theater This Spring, Summer

GOSHEN — From a theatrical intimacy workshop to a free South Bend Civic Theatre production, here’s a look at upcoming events at Goshen Theater. The theater is located at 216 S. Main St., Goshen.
Intimacy Workshop
Regisration closes at 5 p.m. Wednesday, July 12, for “Theatrical Intimacy Education: Best Practices.”
The Goshen Theater Education Department workshop will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with a lunch break mid-way, Saturday, July 22.
The workshop includes tools for developing a consent-based process in a performance and rehearsal setting, setting and respecting boundaries, desexualizing the theatrical/filming process, choreographing intimacy, and proper documentation practices.
The workshop is being instructed by Lusie Cuskey, theatrical intimacy education associate faculty.
There are a limited number of workshop spots available. Should spots fill, a wait list will be created. You must be 18 years and older to participate in the workshop. Registration is $100, and financial aid is available. It is recommended that anyone wishing to participate in the workshop also participate in the “Youth Mental Health First Aid” certification course on Saturday, June 3, but it is not required.

Summer Camp
Register now for the Goshen Theater Drama Club Summer Camp, which will take place from Monday, June 12, to Friday, June 30, for actors, singers, dancers and technicians ages 8 to 14.
Students meet daily from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and rotate through acting, dance, technical and music classes each day. Students create a final showcase to be shared with family and friends at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 1.
After Club Hours are available from 3:30-5 p.m. to families who work late.

From 5-7 p.m. Monday, June 5, potential summer camp students can meet the instructors and have their questions answered.
Adult Improv Class
Register for an adult improv class offered through the Goshen Theater Education Department. The class will be taught by Stephen Freeto, GoProv.
Classes will meet from 1-3 p.m. on Sundays, June 4, June 11, June 25, July 9 and July 16. There will be a showcase performance Friday, July 21, for the Goshen community for students to show off what they learned.
The cost of the class is $75 per student. Space is limited to 20 participants, on a first-come, first-served basis. A wait list will be started should the class fill. Register at goshentheater.wufoo.com/forms/m5pe75u1nr82a2.

Visual Art Series
The “Visual Art Series: Goshen High School Art Student Showcase” is open 5-8 p.m. through Sunday, May 21.
Lobby displays can be viewed at any public event, or during box office hours from noon to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday.
Crimsonaire Spectacular
The Goshen High School Crimsonaires are featured in Miller Auditorium at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, May 20, and 2:30 p.m. Sunday, May 21, in the “Crimsonaire Spectacular!”

Dance Recital
The DES Dance Company Spring Recital will be held in the Miller Auditorium at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. Saturday, May 27.
Students ages 3-18 will showcase what they have learned throughout the season. Tickets go on sale to the public Sunday, May 21.

First Friday
The First Fridays: Wheels and Deals Cycling Celebration will take place under the Goshen Theater marquee from 5-7 p.m. Friday, June 2. A table will feature information about upcoming events, camp and classes. Visitors also can step into the lobby to cool down and view the artwork of the Northern Indiana Clay Alliance.
Visual Arts Series
The “Visual Arts Series: Northern Indiana Clay Alliance” will be featured in the lobby Friday, June 2, through Monday, July 31. The public can view the display during any public event and during box office hours, noon to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday. An artists reception will be held during the First Fridays: Cruise in Car Show on Friday, July 7.
Arts Celebration
“Effervescence: A Celebration of the Arts” will take place from 6-10 p.m. Thursday, June 8.
The evening includes dinner, cocktails, auction and the chance to enjoy performances and visual art by regional artists.

Free Movie Night
“Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella” will be shown at 7 p.m. Friday, June 9, for free movie night. The film is rated G and runs for one hour and 28 minutes. It includes Spanish subtitles. Admission is free but donations will be accepted. Doors open at 6:15 p.m. and seating begins at 6 p.m.

Free South Bend Civic Production
A free performance of “South Bend Civic Theatre Presents: Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom” will take place at 7 p.m. Monday, June 19.
The production is rated PG-13, for language, murder and talk of rape.
There are no tickets or reservations required for this show. Space is limited, so arrive early to secure a seat. Donations are welcome at the door. Concessions and bar will be open for purchases.
