WARSAW — The third time was a charm for Andy Green of Warsaw and his Sebring Orange 2019 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 on Sunday, May 21.
Green took Best of Show for the vehicle at the Warsaw Breakfast Optimist Club’s 13th annual City of Lakes Car Show. He has entered it in the show for three years.
“I’ve had 13 Corvettes. This is the last one that I bought,” he told InkFreeNews. “I continue to do things to it. This year I … hydro dipped the back end … so I just continue to upgrade so I can show it. I just enjoy showing it.”
Green said he’s also traveled to shows in Cincinnati, Ohio, and near Gatlinburg, Tenn.
“It’s really exciting,” he said of the win. “I don’t ever expect it. I do this because I enjoy talking to people about my car.”
Also On Display
Also among the 153 vehicles Sunday was Robin Watters of Warsaw’s blue 1965 Chevrolet C10.
“A friend of mine gave that to me,” he said. “It ran around town as an orange and yellow truck. We used to call it the McDonald’s truck, and then he blew the engine in it and gave it to me.”
He’s owned the vehicle, which he changed to his favorite color, for more than 10 years. “It’s got all LED lighting underneath it,” he added.
“I try to make about every (Optimist car) show,” said Watters, noting he goes to other local shows as well.
Watters also brought his 2002 Triumph motorcycle Sunday.
Down another street was Barry and Connie Duncan’s blue and black 1925 Hupmobile Series E.
The Bluffton couple has had the vehicle for more than 10 years.
Connie said she and Barry hadn’t really been into classic cars until they saw the Hupmobile at an auction in Markle.
She mentioned the first police car used in Detroit was a Hupmobile.
For The Kids
Proceeds from Sunday’s show go back towards the Optimist Club’s goal of helping kids.
“Our mission is bettering the lives of youth in our community,” said Optimist Club President Chris Plack. “And the way we do that, is we do events just like this every year, generate revenue, and then we answer grant requests of folks who are on the front lines … helping these kids.”
“If you are in an organization or a business or something that is helping children in this community, come to us, go to our website, warsawoptimist.org,” he said. “Our grant request is right there. It’s very important because we have money to give, and we want to help people in this community.”
Anyone is welcome to learn more about the Warsaw Breakfast Optimist Club by coming to one of their meetings, which are 7 a.m. every Wednesday at Creighton’s Crazy Egg Cafe, said Plack.
