AKRON — A more than $10,000 fundraiser for Riley Children’s Hospital and a new 3-D printing club were noted during a report on Akron Elementary School on Monday, May 15.
Akron Principal Scott Sterk, his staff and students gave the annual update on the school to the Tippecanoe Valley School Board at its meeting then.
Sterk gave details about the fundraiser.
“So the deal was, if they raised $10,000, Mr. (Ethyn) Brumbaugh, Mr. (Chris) Rassi and myself had to sleep on the roof of the school,” he said, noting there were some grandparents who helped put them over the top.
As for the 3-D printing club, Sterk said it was helped in its start this year via Pike Lumber Co. buying three 3-D printers for it.
He had student Lyndon Shultz talk about the club. Shultz mentioned he created a car and other students made animals through it.
Club members then gave Valley Board members mini trophies they made through the club.
Board members also heard about the school’s math and spell bowl teams and three students who achieved perfect scores on the I-READ state test.
The latter included second grader Elijah Martin and third graders Ellison Burton and Dax Miller.
