Why Should Babies Care About The Library?

WARSAW — If you have a baby in your life, please be sure they visit the library while they’re young. Libraries become a lifelong home away from home for many people. We at Warsaw Community Public Library like to encourage that kind of engagement.
Thousands of children have come through the doors of Warsaw Community Public Library during its 106-year history. Many of those have started their lifelong love of reading by attending story times. Moms have met one another and introduced their little ones. Some may have become lifelong friends. Let us know if that’s your story!
At the library, our virtual card catalog lists 725 board books for babies. These are sturdier than regular picture books, and babies love them. We have picture books such as “Babies Ruin Everything,” a funny book by Matthew Swanson. If you’re curious about Abram X. Kendi’s 2020 book “Antiracist Baby,” come in and check it out.
Our music collection offers lullabies and other songs that your baby might enjoy. Videos are available, as well, that might stimulate your child’s curiosity or help them to relax. Our virtual collection, which you can access through the Indiana Download Center or Hoopla, offers more selections for you and your children.
Next month, we’ll start our annual summer reading challenge, with its 2023 theme “All Together Now.” This is for newborns through the very experienced. “Old” is a state of mind, right? If you or a child’s sibling reads to a little one, it counts for both of you. Read books and win prizes!
As a part of summer reading, we will be offering Stories in the Park in June and July. These will qualify for Babe coupons from Heartline Pregnancy Center. Let us know if you are participating in that program. In June, guest readers Lynelle Vogel, Mike the Lineman and our own Mr. Duane will be presenting programs at different Warsaw parks. Check our website, warsawlibrary.org, for places and dates.
In July, we’ll be at Winona Lake Park on Thursday mornings with guest readers Karen Tharp, Kelly Mager, Tammy Boggs and a representative of KC Recycling. During the summer, we will also offer Greyt Readers (reading with greyhounds at the library), preschool activities, Lego Club, Kids Yoga, Roz Puppets and more.
Come join us!
