News release
SYRACUSE — Is busted jewelry lurking around your house? Hiding forgotten in a dusty drawer?
Now is the chance to learn how to perform basic jewelry repair and actually wear that piece again. The Syracuse Public Library will host a jewelry fix-it clinic at 4 p.m. Wednesday, May 17.
Bring your damaged jewelry to the downstairs meeting room, where the library will have the basic tools needed and limited repair supplies. Shelly Krueger and Becky Brower will teach the class and participants will leave with their jewelry piece repaired and the skills to fix any future breaks.
Also, mark the calendar for May’s second fix-it clinic: an all-ages smartphone photography clinic. Emilia Layne will teach attendees how to take exceptional photos with their smartphones and how to use apps to fix photos that don’t quite clear the hurdle. This clinic will occur at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 23, in the downstairs meeting room.
Adult Programs
Writers of all skill levels and genres are invited to attend The Workshop, SPL’s adult writing group, at 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 16, in the downstairs meeting room. Bring a piece to share or listen to what others have been working on. The group usually enjoys good writing discussions and baked goods during each session.
The adult book club will discuss “The Coroner’s Lunch” by Colin Cotterill during two sessions. The digital discussion will be at 6 p.m. Tuesday, May 16, on Zoom. Contact Becky Brower at [email protected] for a Zoom invitation. The in-person meeting will follow at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 18, in the downstairs meeting room.
Young Adult Activities
Young adults can unwind during Color and Chill from 4-5 p.m. Wednesday, May 17, in the Rosalyn Jones Room. The library provides numerous coloring sheet pages to choose from and snacks. Meanwhile, in the background, Lo-Fi music plays while young adults color.
Love board and card games? The library will hold a young adult board game night from 6-7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 18, in the Rosalyn Jones Room. During May, the group will sample “Harry Potter Scene It?,” a game that tests players’ knowledge of the book and movie series. How well do you know the world’s most famous wizards? Come and find out.
