WPD Details Situation That Spurred Brief Lockdown For 2 Warsaw Schools
Staff Report
WARSAW — The Warsaw Police Department has detailed the situation that spurred two Warsaw Community Schools to go on a brief lockdown on Tuesday, May 9.
Warsaw Police Department Public Information Officer Capt. Brad Kellar released the following information to InkFreeNews.
“Earlier this morning, a concerned citizen saw a person walking close to the area of Lincoln Elementary with what appeared to be a suspicious item in his possession. Taking this concern seriously, patrol officers and Warsaw school resource officers converged on the area, with officers inside Lincoln, while others searched the immediate area.”
“It was soon determined that the item was not suspicious and the concern was resolved. During this investigation, there was a brief lockdown of schools in that area. Once we determined there was no threat, the schools were released of that lockdown.”
“We will always act swiftly to protect children and teachers in our community schools. Furthermore, we are thankful for concerned citizens always looking out for suspicious activity or behaviors.”
A WCS representative told InkFreeNews that Lakeview Middle School and Lincoln Elementary School were locked down for 11 minutes.
