WARSAW — A South Bend woman facing charges in a November 2022 Walmart robbery incident also allegedly stole high-end wine from the Warsaw Kroger.
Shamika D. Mitchell, 42, South Bend, is charged with two counts of theft, both class A misdemeanors; and two counts of sentence enhancement theft, both level 6 felonies.
On Jan. 30, a Warsaw Police officer spoke with a Kroger employee about two people stealing several bottles of high-end wine from the store between the dates of Dec. 26, 2022, and Dec. 31, 2022.
According to court documents, surveillance footage showed a man and woman taking multiple bottles of wine from the store without paying for them. During the investigation, the man was shown making a purchase while using a Kroger loyalty card.
On Feb. 13, a WPD detective completed a subpoena on the loyalty card and discovered it belonged to a relative of Mitchell’s.
Mitchell was identified through a previous theft report in which she was wearing similar clothing.
The total value of the stolen wine was $791.94. No charges have been filed against the man mentioned in this case.
Mitchell was previously convicted of theft in St. Joseph County in December 2019.
She is also facing robbery, battery and theft charges from a November 2022 Walmart incident in which she allegedly attempted to steal merchandise and pepper sprayed an employee.
Mitchell was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail for the Kroger theft and Walmart robbery on May 4.
