PIERCETON — People can support some local businesses during an upcoming special event in Pierceton.
The Pierceton Chamber of Commerce’s second annual Destination Pierceton is Friday, May 12, and Saturday, May 13. Hours are generally 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with some businesses opening earlier or staying open later.
Pierceton Chamber President Kelsea DeGaetano said the event is meant for people to “see what a destination the town of Pierceton can be.”
Once again, it’s aimed at kicking off the summer season in Pierceton ahead of Pierceton Days in July and the Heirloom Tomato Festival in August.
“People can expect food, antiques, business promotions, viewing auction items and shopping from vendors and downtown shops,” she said.
Food will be available for sale from both food trucks and local restaurants. There’s also the option of grabbing some fish from Pierceton Fire Department’s fish fry from 4-7 p.m. May 13.
An online silent auction to benefit the chamber will be ongoing during that time. DeGaetano said details are still being finalized, but the auction is estimated to run the week of May 8 through May 18. More information will be posted on the chamber’s Facebook page as it gets closer, with people able to find the link to the auction there or the chamber’s website.
DeGaetano said “yard decor, home decor, a spa gift basket, use of a skid loader and more” are part of the auction.
Booths will also be set up downtown, run by businesses that don’t have physical locations in that area.
“All of our chamber members have the opportunity to set up a booth for free during the event to promote their business or company, provide awareness for a cause, sell products, host a job fair and more,” said DeGaetano. “We did open the event to other vendors for a fee of $20 this year as well for others in our community and nearby towns.”
Antique vendors will be set up May 13 as that’s one of the chamber’s Second Saturdays.
DeGaetano noted Pierceton is centrally located to many area communities.
“We hope that people will see what our town has to offer and stop by on their way through the area or make it a destination for their next weekend trip or vacation,” she said.
