Ray E. Plummer
Ray E. Plummer, 82, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 23, 2023, at Waterford Crossing in Goshen. “To God Be the Glory.”
Born on Oct. 30, 1940, in Defiance, Ohio, Ray was the son of Paul A. and Margrate M. (Boday) Plummer. He graduated from Defiance High School and went on to graduate in 1962 from International Business College in Fort Wayne with an associate in accounting. Ray then went on to be the first person to receive an MBA at Ball State University in 1969.
In Portland, Ind., on Dec. 14, 1963, Ray married the love of his life, Dianne L. Lay. They would welcome four children and be sweethearts for 60 years.
While attending college, Ray joined the Air National Guard, being honorably discharged in August of 1968.
Ray was owner of Plummer & Co. Inc., serving Warsaw and the surrounding cities as a CPA for 38 years. He would retire in 2012. He was also a major industrial land developer in Warsaw and Defiance, Ohio. He was an active Warsaw community member and served on various boards.
He was wise beyond words, patient and kind, but he could also be tenacious and stubborn. Ray was smart as a whip and had a very generous soul. He taught his family the importance of hard work and that family means everything. Ray loved his wife dearly and his children, and was gentle and extra loving to his grandchildren or, as he called them, his “angels.”
He enjoyed hunting and fishing in his spare time and trips to Alaska and Florida. Ray was a member of Pleasant View Bible Church in Warsaw, and on Thursdays he enjoyed meeting with a group of men from the church for breakfast.
Ray is dearly missed by his wife, Dianne, of Warsaw; and his children, Dawnna Plummer, of Warsaw, Timothy (Vicki) Plummer, of Claypool, and David (Niki) Plummer of Elburn, Ill.; six grandchildren, R.J. (Taylyn) Plummer, Amber (Brandon) Yoder, Bethany (Logan) Davidson, Ben (Ashlee Brink) Plummer, Layla Plummer and Dylan Plummer; and eight great-grandchildren.
His siblings are Peggy Ramey, Carey (Brenda) Plummer and Nancy Oberhaus, all of Ohio, and sisters-in-law, Joyce Plummer, Phyllis Brewer and Linda Decker.
He was preceded in death by his son, Daniel Plummer; his parents; and his brothers, Robert, George, Tom and Larry.
Visitation will be held from 3-6 p.m. on Thursday, April 27, at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, 2290 Provident Court, Warsaw. Funeral services will immediately follow at 6 p.m. in the funeral home.
Family burial will take place the following day in the Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.
