WARSAW — A Warsaw man was recently arrested after officers discovered large amounts of illegal drugs inside a vehicle.
Charles William Dove, 39, 321 Sophie Lane, Warsaw, is charged with dealing in a schedule I, II, or III controlled substance, a level 2 felony; possession of methamphetamine and dealing in marijuana, both level 6 felonies; possession of marijuana, a class B misdemeanor; possession of paraphernalia, a class C misdemeanor; and possession of marijuana with a sentence enhancement, a class A misdemeanor.
On Dec. 25, 2021, a Warsaw Police officer was informed that Dove was at a local restaurant. At the time, Dove was wanted for questioning regarding the theft of a firearm. The officer saw Dove and Sarah E. Elder, Winona Lake, leave the restaurant and travel to a local hotel. Elder was also wanted for questioning about the theft.
According to court documents, after the interviews were concluded and Dove and Elder went into the hotel, a K9 unit at the scene alerted to illegal drugs inside Elder’s vehicle. Upon searching the vehicle, officers found drug paraphernalia, 46.8 grams of marijuana, meth, a ledger, and four bags containing a dried brown fungus-like substance.
Inside the ledger was a page with notes consistent with illegal drug activity.
The bags containing the dried fungus-like substance were taken to the Indiana State Police Laboratory for chemical analysis. One of the bags contained a schedule 1 controlled substance, with a weight of 121.6 grams. The dried fungus-like substances discovered in the vehicle weighed 218.9 grams. A glass jar also found in the vehicle contained THC, which weighed 17.4 grams.
Elder was sentenced for this case in August 2022 for meth possession and received a one-year suspended sentence.
Dove was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail on April 8, with a $25,500 surety and cash bond.
