Goshen Theater Starts April With Art, Ends With River Bend Film Fest

Goshen Theater is a historic 600-seat live performing arts venue and ballroom constructed in 1907 and renovated in 2020.
GOSHEN — Plenty will be happening at the Goshen Theater during the month of April — from an art exhibit to a free family movie, from a drama club showcase to the annual River Bend Film Festival.
The theater is located at 216 S. Main St.
Art exhibit: On exhibition for the entire month are works by past and current members of the visual arts faculty at Goshen College. Artists include: Abner Hershberger, Marvin Bartel, Judy Wenig-Horswell, John Blosser, Randy Horst, Sara Method, John Mishler, David Kendall and Merrill Krabill. Their works went on display in the lobby mid-March and will remain on exhibit through Monday, May 1. The lobby displays can be viewed at any public event or during box office hours, which are noon to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday.
First Friday: The theater will join in First Friday festivities with “Spring Into Acting” from 6-8 p.m. Friday, April 7. People are
invited to come enjoy the newly renovated Goshen Theater and grab a snack and drink at concessions.
Free movie night: A free movie night will help celebrate the return of baseball season when the comedy “The Sandlot” is shown at 7 p.m. Friday, April 14, in the Miller Auditorium at the theater. The film tells the story of an awkward fifth-grade boy in the early 1960s who’s new in town. He makes friends with a group of neighborhood kids while playing baseball and embarks on a summer of ballgames and adventures. James Earl Jones, Karen Allen, Denis Leary and Thomas Guiry are featured in the movie. It’s rated PG and runs for one hour and 41 minutes, with Spanish subtitles.
Admission to the movie is free, but donations are encouraged. Doors open at 6:15 p.m., and the bar and concession stand will be open. The event is sponsored by the Community Foundation of Elkhart County. Visit goshentheater.com for more information and up-to-date COVID policies and information.
Spring Showcase: At 7 p.m. Saturday, April 15, the acting, dance and voice students of the Goshen Theater Drama Club will present their Spring Showcase. Tickets are available at goshentheater.org/events.
Film festival: Thursday, April 20, through Sunday, April 23, the annual River Bend Film Festival will take place at Goshen Theater. It will be a weekend filled with independent films, question-and-answer sessions, workshops and celebrations as the festival marks its 20th year of showcasing the best in cinematic arts. The event is a destination for film enthusiasts, industry experts and residents who are passionate about the art of filmmaking.
