To earn the awards, the chapter completed several projects throughout the year. The College Project Award goes to an organization that has worked to benefit the culture and strength of their campus. Warsaw’s chapter was rewarded in its efforts to increase enrollment numbers on campus. They also conducted a study called “The Science of Play” for their Honors in Action project, which researched the impact play has on the stress levels of students by hosting game nights and offering other opportunities during finals week.
Established in 1918, Phi Theta Kappa has a presence on almost 1,300 community college campuses in 11 nations. The American Association of Community Colleges recognized Phi Theta Kappa as the official honor society for two-year colleges in 1929. More than 3.8 million students have been inducted since 1918, with approximately 250,000 active members in the nation’s community colleges.
Warsaw’s Beta Zeta Kappa Chapter will be traveling to Columbus, Ohio, later in April to attend the Phi Theta Kappa Catalyst International Convention, vying for more awards. The community can support the chapter by participating in its Panda Express fundraiser Wednesday, April 26, in Warsaw.
