MIDDLEBURY — A death involving an adult in Northridge Middle School’s parking lot on Friday, March 24, has been ruled a suicide.
Middlebury Community Schools’ Superintendent Dr. Jayson Snyder published the following statement to social media:
“Today was a sad day for our Middlebury Community Schools family. John Homan, a staff member at Northridge Middle School, died by suicide in the north parking lot behind the middle school. At no time were any students threatened or in danger, but the main campus was placed on lockdown until the police deemed it safe.
On Monday (March 27), we will have added support from Ryan’s Place on our campus as well as additional counselors at the middle school to speak with students and/or staff as needed.
Thank you to our employees, police officers, and families for responding so quickly and appropriately during (the) tragic event. MCS is an incredibly special place, and I have no doubt that we will pull together and lift each other up during this difficult time.”
Homan’s obituary states he worked as a Multilanguage Learner paraprofessional at the middle school. He is survived by his wife and daughter.
