WARSAW — Finding stories about women has become much easier in the last few generations.
The music industry has produced an abundance of songs about women — their history, their experiences and their empowerment. Finding books and other resources about these subjects at local libraries is not difficult. Warsaw Community Public Library offers many books, both online and in print. Let’s take a little visit to Children’s Services.
We have added a number of picture book biographies to our collection recently. If you would like to read about musicians, try “The ABC’s of Women in Music” by Anneli Loepp Thiessen. You can also find “Dancing Hands: How Teresa Carreno Played the Piano for President Lincoln” by Margarita Engle and “Listen: How Evelyn Glennie, a Deaf Girl, Changed Percussion” by Shannon Stocker.
If science is your thing, you and/or your littles might enjoy “How to Hear the Universe: Gaby Gonzalez and the Search for Einstein’s Ripples in Space-Time” by Bonnie Tsui. “The Aquanaut,” an autobiographical story of scientist Jill Heinerth, is another interesting book.
We also have books about adventurers such as “Bessie the Motorcycle Queen” by Charles R. Smith and “Sarah and the Big Wave: The True Story of the First Woman to Surf Mavericks” by Bonnie Tsui. Come in and check them out.
We would like to thank everyone who participated in our 2023 Winter Reading Challenge. In Children’s Services, 478 total participants completed 6,123 bingo activities. With 440 total participants, Teens & Adults read almost 1.19 million pages or minutes. Wow!
Summer reading starts in June. Watch the event calendar at warsawlibrary.org for other fun activities. Thank you all again for continuing to support your local library.
