PIERCETON — The four dugouts at Pierceton-Washington Township Park are set to be spruced up.
Pierceton Park Board President Kim Rose and Secretary Annie Espinoza shared that information with InkFreeNews in an update on the park.
“We got one (quote for work on the dugouts), and we’re still waiting on several,” said Espinoza.
The dugouts are original to the park, dating from the 1970s, she said.
Aside from the two baseball fields, there’s also pavilion space, playground equipment and an amphitheater at the park.
The park board hopes to establish a basketball court at the park eventually. They have some of the equipment already, but COVID-19 and economic factors slowed down the process for putting it in.
Another recent addition to the park was picnic tables built/refinished by Pierceton Woods Academy.
Rose said she hoped the town could partner with Whitko Career Academy in the future for a project at the park.
Aside from town employees, it’s mainly park board members that keep the park in order. Other members include Deb Thomas, Cindy Kreger and Vice President Paula Smith.
Volunteers are welcome, with people able to reach out to Espinoza or Rose if they want to help.
Donations are also welcomed, with people able to reach out to the town office to learn how. Any amount is welcome.
“And whether it’s a dollar or a thousand dollars, that dollar is just as important, and it always has been,” she said.
People will often donate to the parks quietly, said Espinoza.
Other Pierceton parks include the skate park and Brower Park.
“We are very proud of (them),” said Espinoza.
Rose said people should care about Pierceton’s parks since relationships are strengthened there.
“It’s somewhere you can come as a family,” she said. “I mean, we came as kids, our grandkids come here.”
People are welcome to attend the park board’s meetings. Those are at 5:30 p.m. on the first Wednesday of the month at the Pierceton Community Building.
