William Earl Jones, 97, formerly of Columbia City, died peacefully in his sleep at 5:25 a.m. Feb. 21, 2023, at Heritage Pointe of Huntington.

He was born Jan. 4, 1926.

He married Arline J. Chapman on July 26, 1947. She preceded him in death.

Surviving are his children, Carol Thompson, Santa Cruz, N.M., Susan (James) Cartwright, Muncie, Marquis (Carol Hively) Jones, Columbia City and Nola (Robert) Smodic, Nashville, Tenn.; several grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and a brother Don Jones, Churubusco.

Arrangements are in the care of Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City.
