CLAYPOOL — A new reserve deputy marshal for Claypool was sworn in during a Feb. 21 Claypool Town Council meeting.

Nickolas Wilkins was sworn in by Town Marshal Ben Sanders. Wilkins formerly worked for the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office and lives in Claypool. He’s also the nephew of Council President Benny Stage Jr.

In other business, council voted to have a representative from SiteWorx Services attend the March meeting to answer residents’ questions on recycling services. SiteWorx is subcontracted by Borden Waste-Away Service Inc., Elkhart, who is offering curbside recycling services county-wide following the recent closure of the Kosciusko County Recycling Depot’s outdoor drop-off stations.

A letter written by SiteWorx and Borden representatives to the town council states the following: “Borden is prepared to provide curbside recycling service to the entire town of Claypool at just $4 per month, per household, billed directly to the town. Alternatively, we are also prepared to offer residents a subscription-based service at a heavily reduced rate of just $6 per month, billed directly to Claypool residents as subscription customers.”

Some residents in attendance at the council meeting said they are currently being billed $8 a month for curbside recycling service in town.

In other business, council:

• Approved a salary ordinance amendment regarding a $1 raise for the town’s assistant superintendent due to the superintendent receiving his wastewater certification.
• Agreed to schedule a meeting with Commonwealth Engineers Inc. and Michiana Area Council of Governments representatives to further discuss grants through the Office of Community and Rural Affairs.

The council’s next meeting is at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 21, at the Claypool Lions Club building.
