Donald ‘Don’ K. Reinholt — UPDATED
Donald “Don” Keith Reinholt, 86, Warsaw, died Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2023, at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne.
He was born May 9, 1936, along with his twin brother, Ronald, in Monterey, to Ruby Grace (Beauchamp) Reinholt and Donald Edward Reinholt. Don was a 1954 graduate of Aubbeenaubbee High School in Leiters Ford. He loved all sports and played varsity basketball, baseball and track. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War from 1954-1956. Using the G.I. Bill, Don furthered his education studying business administration and accounting.
Don married the love of his life, Carla Jean Chizum on Oct. 11, 1958. They were blessed with three sons, 10 grandsons and 11 great-grandchildren through 64 years of marriage.
Don worked 20 years at Knox Furniture Co. in Knox, which his father-in-law Bill Chizum opened in 1936. He purchased Glover Furniture in Warsaw in 1982 and later changed the name to Reinholt’s Town Square Furniture where he served his customers and worked alongside his sons and grandsons for 40 years.
Don coached Little League and officiated Indiana high school basketball including the IHSAA State Basketball Tournament. His passion was running, and he participated in long distance races including six Boston Marathons. He was one of 21 Kosciusko residents in the Indiana Bicentennial Torch Relay, was Veteran of the Month for the county and a long-time member of the Wednesday Morning Optimist Club. One of his highlights was being selected for a Veteran Honor Flight to Washington, D.C.
He believed and trusted the Lord and enjoyed the fellowship of his church family at Pathway Church in Warsaw. Don loved his family dearly and led by example. Don said that he “enjoyed a blessed life…great wife, great family, great friends. God has truly blessed.”
Don is survived by his wife, Carla Jean Reinholt, Warsaw; three sons, Keith (Cindy) Reinholt, Scott (Lisa) Reinholt and Brent (Tracy) Reinholt, all of Warsaw. Also surviving are 10 grandsons, Tyler (Beth) Reinholt, Orlando, Fla., Trevor (Brittney) Reinholt, Orlando, Fla., Thomas (Lindsay) Reinholt. Floyds Knobs, Mitchell (Lindsay) Reinholt, Warsaw, Michael (Megan) Reinholt, Warsaw, Matthew (Lauren) Reinholt, Warsaw, Brody (Hannah) Reinholt, Warsaw, Steven (Izzy) Reinholt, Winona Lake, Brandon Reinholt, Grand Rapids, Mich. and Garrett Reinholt, Warsaw; 11 great-grandchildren; brother, Stanley (Betty) Reinholt; and his sister-in-law, Susie Reinholt. He was preceded in death by his parents; twin brother and sister-in-law, Ronald (Denise) Reinholt; brother, Jack Reinholt; and sister and brother-in-law, Barbara (Wayne) Hissong.
Don’s life will be celebrated with a service at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, 2023, at Pathway Church, 2402 W. Old Road 30, Warsaw, and officiated by Pastor Paul James and assisted by grandson, Trevor Reinholt and Pastor Jarod Osborne. Friends and family may visit prior to the service from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. A graveside service will follow at Oakwood Cemetery of Warsaw with military rites conducted by members of the American Legion Post No. 49 and the V.F.W. No. 1126, both of Warsaw and active-duty members of the Indiana Army Honor Guard. Arrangements were entrusted to Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw.
