WARSAW — A Minnesota man was arrested in Kosciusko County after allegedly stealing a vehicle.
Christopher Alan Gray, 42, Battle Lake, Minn., is charged with theft, a level 6 felony; possession of marijuana, a class B misdemeanor; and possession of paraphernalia, a class C misdemeanor.
On Jan. 22, the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office was alerted to a report of a stolen Chevrolet Equinox with a Minnesota registration plate near SR 15 in Warsaw. The vehicle’s owner reported it stolen on Jan. 10.
According to court documents, on Jan. 1, Gray and the vehicle’s owner went to put the Chevrolet Equinox in storage, with Gray seeing where the Equinox’s key was located. The owner said the last time he gave Gray permission to drive the vehicle was Dec. 1, 2022.
A KCSO deputy found the stolen vehicle and pulled it over. The vehicle’s backseat passenger, later identified as Gray, allegedly yelled he borrowed the vehicle and that it wasn’t stolen.
Gray told the officer that about three months prior, the vehicle’s owner allowed him to borrow the vehicle. He said he had until the end of January to return the Equinox and told the deputy he and the vehicle’s driver were on their way to Minnesota to return it.
While searching the vehicle, officers found a bag containing marijuana and a smoking pipe. Gray said the marijuana was his.
Gray was arrested and released on his own recognizance. He has an initial hearing at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 16, in Kosciusko Superior Court One.
