Carol Sue Curtis, 85, Warsaw, died Monday, Feb. 13, 2023, at Paddock Springs.
She was born in Fulton County on June 6, 1937, the daughter of (the late) Wilbert and LaVera (Walters) Utter. She graduated from Talma High School, where she enjoyed singing in the school choir and on June 25, 1955, she married Gale Curtis, who preceded her in death on July 22, 1999, after 44 years of marriage.
She attended Warsaw Community Church and was a homemaker who was devoted to her family and friends; she cherished her grandchildren and enjoyed sewing, canning, baking, especially pies and bread, and tending to her flowers and garden. She liked traveling and enjoyed the winters she and Gale spent in Florida. She also worked over the years, having been employed by Jomac, Chore-Time and even served as a mail carrier.
She is survived by her daughter: Angelia (John) Strayer, South Whitley; son: Chad Curtis, Warsaw; sister: Luanne (Jim) May, Columbia City; grandchildren: Rebekah (Andrew) Mitchell, Warsaw; Ben Garber, Warsaw; Jonathan Strayer, South Whitley; and her great-grandchildren: Issiac, Madelynn, Samuel, Anna, Sydney, Katheryn and Maggie. In addition to her parents and Gale, Sue was also preceded in death by a daughter: Ranae Sue Garber; and her brothers: Dick, Ronnie and Jim Utter.
Memorial services are scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, at McHatton Sadler Funeral Chapel, 2290 Provident Court, Warsaw, with Pastor Rod Utter officiating. The family will receive friends from 11 a.,m. to 1 p.m. Saturday , Feb. 18, in the funeral home. Private burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery. The family’s preferred memorials are Harrison Elementary School, 1300 Husky Trail, Warsaw, IN 46582; or the American Cancer Society, PO Box 6704, Hagerstown, MD 21741.
