Area Accident Reports
Kosciusko County
Officers with the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office investigated the following accidents:
- 2:42 p.m. Monday, Feb. 13, East CR 1300N, east of North CR 300E, Syracuse. Driver: Merlin L. Barker, 55, North Main Street, Syracuse. Barker’s vehicle left the roadway and hit a fence. Damage up to $10,000.
- 1:20 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 12, South Higbee Street, south of Turkey Creek Drive, Milford. Driver: Maycol Ramos-Martin, 19, Wilson Avenue, Goshen. Ramos-Martin’s vehicle left the roadway and rolled at least one time. Ramos-Martin sustained minor injuries to his elbow and lower arm area. A passenger in his vehicle, Nelson Vijil, 18, Goshen, also sustained similar injuries. Both refused medical attention at the scene. Ramos-Martin and Vijil were later taken into custody for suspected alcohol consumption. Damage up to $25,000.
Pierceton
Officers with the Pierceton Police Department investigated the following accident:
- 3:40 p.m. Monday, Feb. 13, 1 Arnolt Drive, Pierceton. Drivers: John J. Young, 53, East US 30 Lot 53, Pierceton; and Avery R. Gates, 21, Redwood Boulevard, Warsaw. Young was moving his vehicle from a parking space when he hit Gates’ vehicle. Damage up to $2,500.
Warsaw
Officers with the Warsaw Police Department investigated the following accident:
- 8:23 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11, 2519 E. Center St., Warsaw. Drivers: Tracey S. Shumaker, 55, North Maple Drive, Warsaw; and Andrew P. Balke, 41, East Main Street, Warsaw. Shumaker was approaching a parking lot intersection when she hit Balke’s vehicle. Damage up to $5,000.
Winona Lake
Officers with the Winona Lake Police Department investigated the following accident:
- midnight Saturday, Feb. 11, Kings Highway, near Wood Street, Winona Lake. Driver: Miguel Nocelotl Moyotl, 39, West Center Street 152, Warsaw. Nocelotl Moyotl told officers he fell asleep at the wheel, resulting in his vehicle leaving the roadway and hitting what he believed to be a pole. His vehicle actually hit a fire hydrant. Nocelotl Moyotl also left the scene. Damage up to $50,000.
