WCA Students Tour Micropulse Inc.
News Release
LARWILL — Whitko Career Academy’s welding and precision programs recently toured Micropulse Inc. in Columbia City.
Tours were coordinated by the WCA and Human Resources Manager Baily Beiswanger. They began with a welcome and presentation of the general history of and types of products produced by Micropulse.
Business Development Manager Lex Hunter then took the first student group and provided a view of the case and tray laser and the value of supply chain management. Technical Operations Manager Brent Walter took a second group through the CNC machining facilities and discussed the role of robotics as it applies to precision machining and advanced manufacturing.
Technical Operations Engineer Mike Bowland led a group of students to the sterile packaging department, and Technical Operations Engineer Shawn Beard guided a fourth group through the exotic metal 3-D printing and finishing processes at the facility.
The tour concluded in the boardroom with a question and answer session that spurred discussion about employability skills and the value of apprenticeships and internships.
