Lilly Center To Host ‘Restoring Pollinator Pathways’ Event Saturday
News Release
WINONA LAKE — The Lilly Center For Lakes & Streams will be hosting a “Restoring Pollinator Pathways” event from 9:30-11:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 11, at 806 Connection Circle, Winona Lake.
Pollinators benefit the environment’s health but are also very crucial to garden and agricultural production. They allow plants to reproduce in urban and rural landscapes. Alicia Symons, Stormwater coordinator for the City of Warsaw, will share about pollinator habitat loss and how you can make a positive impact to restore pollinator pathways.
Attendees will also build their very own bee hotel to welcome pollinators to their garden this spring. Those interested can register for this free event here.
The Lilly Center will also be hosting “Modern Gardening: Covers, Companion, Flips.” This workshop will take place from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 23. The event is free, but you can register for it here.
Have you thought about how you can get more out of your garden? This workshop, hosted by the Lilly Center and Kosciusko County Soil & Water Conservation District, will introduce the benefits of cover crops, companion crops and flips can have for farmers and urban and rural gardeners.
Hear from two fourth-generation farmers, Jeff and Zack Hawkins, and Terris Theisen, director of Local Food Coordination and Outreach.
The Hawkins Family and Terri Theisen will give a brief instructional talk about how you can benefit from cover crops, companion crops and crop rotation. You’ll hear how these techniques benefit the successful growth of future crops and help prevent soil erosion, improve soil health and even increase profitability.
Guests will have the opportunity to ask questions and will also receive an instructional packet to take away.
In March, the Lilly Center is partnering with Purdue KC Extension Office to bring women of all ages together for brunch to find guidance and have inspiring conversations to grow their own gardens or fields. “Women Growing Their Futures” will be held from 10-11:30 a.m. Saturday, March 18. Refreshments will be provided. You can RSVP for this free event by clicking here.
