WARSAW — The deadline for candidates to file for the May Primary ballot ended at noon today, Friday, Feb. 3.
There will be no primary contested races for the city of Warsaw. This is the first in a number of years. The county election board will be determining if there is a need to conduct a primary election for the city.
With no opposition in the primary Jeff Grose will be the Republican candidate in November for the mayor of Warsaw and Juergen Voss will become the party’s candidate in the District 1 seat. That seat was previously held by Grose.
However, there will be primary elections for Winona Lake and the town of Syracuse.
Uncontested City Offices
Those in the uncontested races for Warsaw are:
- Mayor — Jeff Grose
- Clerk-treasurer — Lynne Christiansen
- Council District 1 — Juergen Voss
- Council District 2 — Josh Finch
- Council District 3 — Mike Klondaris
- Council District 4 — William Frush
- Council District 5 — Diane Quance
- At Large — Cindy Dobbins and Jack Wilhite.
Primary Elections
Races in Winona Lake will be for the clerk-treasurer’s seat. Incumbent Laurie Renier will be going against Heather James, current council member. Barry Andrew filed for James’ district seat.
There will be two races in Syracuse. The races will be for clerk-treasurer and for the District 4 seat. Virginia Cazier, current clerk-treasurer, will go up against current councilman Larry Siegel for the clerk-treasurer’s seat. David Rosenberry, Nathan Scherer and Brian Woody will battle it out for the District 4 seat. One of those three people will be appointed Tuesday, Feb. 7, at a Republican caucus in Syracuse to fill the vacancy left by the resignation of Larry Martindale, who held the District 4 seat. Martindale resigned at the end of January due to health reasons.
