Judith E. Swick, 82, rural Burket, died surrounded by her family at 9:25 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 21, 2023, at her residence in Burket.
Judy was born June 17, 1940, in Warsaw, to the late Victor and H. Ellen (Graves) Cook. She married Dec. 22, 1962, in Burket, to Frank L. Swick; he survives.
Judy was a 1958 graduate of Warsaw High School. She furthered her education at Huntington University, graduating in 1962 with her bachelor’s degree in education. She later attained her master’s degree from Saint Francis University. She then taught for Beaver Dam, Akron, Talma, Ivy Tech and Tippecanoe Valley. She also worked as an operator and in Human Resources for United Telephone.
She was a member of the Speakers Bureau, the Burket United Methodist Church, the Winona Lake Free Methodist Church and in earlier years, the Tuesday Dramatics Club. She enjoyed being a sports mom and grandma. As long as she was able, she was there to cheer on her family. She loved theater and drama and enjoyed attending plays at the Wagon Wheel.
She is survived by her husband Frank Swick, Burket; children, Annette Swick, Burket, Derrill (Paula) Swick, San Antonio, Texas, Ginger (Joe) Bishop, Indianapolis and Pepper (Robert) Bell, Fort Wayne; grandchildren, Jordan (Kaycee), Cody, Samuel, Matt, Alexander, Tyler and Colton; great-grandchildren Peyton and Paxton; and a sister Karolyn (Eddie) Barrus, Leesburg.
Judy was preceded in death by her parents, Victor and Ellen Cook; sisters, Marolyn, Frances, Jeanne, Donna and Phyllis; and brothers, John, Joe, Bob and Norman.
The memorial service will take place at 6 p.m. Monday, Jan. 30, 2023, at King Memorial Home, 101 N. Tucker St., Mentone.
Her final remembrance place will be in the Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.
Memorial visitation will be held from 4-6 p.m. Monday, Jan. 30 , 2023, at King Memorial Home, Mentone.
Memorial contributions can be made in her memory to the Seward Township/ Burket Volunteer Fire Department.
