WARSAW — An Elkhart woman was recently arrested on drug charges after an infant child was found to have ingested amphetamines.
Amber Dawn Ragsdale, 36, 25551 Modrell Ave., Elkhart, is charged with dealing methamphetamine, a level 2 felony; possession of methamphetamine, a level 4 felony; and possession of a controlled substance, a class A misdemeanor.
On Sept. 12, 2022, Child Protective Services requested officers’ assistance for a home visit in Warsaw. According to court documents, CPS conducted the home visit after a woman took an 18-day-old child to a local hospital on Sept. 10, 2022. The child was having seizure-like activity and was later taken to a Fort Wayne hospital, where a toxicology screen showed they had amphetamines in their system.
While attempting to make contact at the home, officers smelled marijuana and noticed a glass pipe with burnt residue. NET43 Drug Task Force obtained a search warrant for the home and arrested Jason T. Whitaker, Warsaw; Kenyon D. Harris, Elkhart; and Ragsdale. Harris is the child’s father.
Officers obtained a search warrant for Ragsdale’s phone and found messages related to drug dealing. This included a message to Harris, asking him to get scales and a sandwich bag ready for her.
Ragsdale has four prior convictions for meth possession in Elkhart County.
For this case, Ragsdale was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail on Jan. 11, with a $75,250 surety and cash bond.
