SILVER LAKE — The Silver Lake Town Council heard updates from the Silver Lake Marshal’s Office, fire department and street department at its meeting Wednesday, Jan. 11.
Town Marshal Jason McGlennen reported they had received new computers for their vehicles and that the county is actively installing software on them.
Fire Chief John Conley reported that the department had four runs since the December meeting; two medical assists, one false alarm and one accident.
Conley was also approved by the council as fire chief for 2023.
Silver Lake Town Utilities and Street Department employees said a backhoe, truck and dump truck are currently being repaired.
The council decided to table their yearly contract with Baker Tilly, as the proposed contract is roughly $10,000 more than in previous years.
Clerk-Treasurer Tonya Conley stated this contract costs significantly more because Baker Tilly is offering additional services that they do not usually do for the town such as quarterly reports, semi annual reports and a comprehensive financial plan.
The council also approved an alcoholic beverage and neighbors ordinance which, prior to the meeting, had not been updated since the 1990s.
The council discussed getting WiFi in the meeting room, which Conley noted would be extremely beneficial for when they are audited. They decided to explore their options with WiFi extenders as it may be more cost-effective than paying $1,093 to install it.
The claim dockets, payroll, a leak letter and a retainer for Town Attorney Austin Rovenstine were also approved.
The next board meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 8, at the Silver Lake Town Metting Hall, 604 N. Jefferson St., Silver Lake.
