WARSAW — There will be a local community event in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on the holiday set aside to remember his legacy.
One Warsaw will have a Martin Luther King Jr. Day celebration from 5:30-8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 16, at Courthouse Coffee on the Square, 108 N. Buffalo St., Warsaw.
Joe Banks will speak, and music will be provided by saxophonist Charles Cotton and local DJ Ray Cruz.
One Warsaw’s Sara Strahan said she hopes attendees take away a sense of “community togetherness” as they reflect on King’s legacy.
It was community members that brought up the idea for the celebration, after it was announced there would be no event in honor of King on MLK Jr. Day, said Strahan. They reached out to her and she worked to help set up the celebration.
“It meant so much to people in the community to remember Dr. King,” she said.
The celebration will have a “relaxed approach” with people welcome to come and go as they please, said Strahan. There will be free light hors d’oeuvres, and coffee available for purchase.
