Mench Arrested After Allegedly Battering, Strangling Woman
Staff Report
WARSAW — A Warsaw man was arrested after allegedly battering and strangling a woman while in the presence of four children.
Michael David Mench, 40, 2492 S. 400W, Warsaw, is charged with domestic battery with a child under 16 present, a level 6 felony; and domestic battery, a class A misdemeanor.
On Dec. 28, 2022, law enforcement responded to a location in Warsaw regarding a physical fight.
According to court documents, a woman said she received a phone call from a child, who said Mench physically assaulted and strangled a woman. One of the responding deputies noticed the woman who was battered had redness on her throat and neck area.
Four children in the home said they either saw or heard the physical altercation between Mench and the woman. One of the children said they saw Mench grab the woman and throw her onto a bed. They said they did not witness Mench strangle the woman, but heard the woman admit Mench strangled her.
Mench told responding officers that the altercation was only verbal.
The woman who was battered refused repeatedly to give a statement and said she couldn’t remember what happened.
Mench has been arrested and released on bond. He has an initial hearing at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 12, in Kosciusko Superior Court Three.
