Warsaw FFA Competes In Career Development Events

WARSAW — Warsaw FFA recently competed in the Indiana 4-H/FFA State Career Development Events for the FFA Crops Judging CDE, FFA Forestry Judging CDE, and FFA Entomology Judging CDE.
Students who participated in the Crops Judging CDE had to identify seeds and plants from crops and weeds, identify plant diseases and insects, identify common agronomic equipment, take an agronomic industry quiz, and grade samples of grain. Warsaw FFA earned a 27th-place FFA team ranking in the State in the Senior FFA Division. Individually, Thomas Boggs placed 23rd, Breanna Thompson placed 91st, Payton Kohler placed 151st, and AJ Truex placed 164th.
Students who participated in the Forestry Judging CDE had to identify tree leaves, tree seeds, and wood specimens, along with common tree insects and diseases. They also had to take a forestry industry quiz. Warsaw FFA earned a 20th-place FFA team ranking in the State in the Senior FFA Division. Individually, Jadrien Burge placed 47th, Makayla Riley placed 65th, Rylan Cooper placed 68th, and Khloe Hinojosa placed 206th.
Students who participated in the Entomology Judging CDE had to identify insects and their classification orders, along with an entomology industry quiz. Warsaw FFA earned a 28th-place FFA team ranking in the State in the Senior FFA Division. Individually, Kendall Gibson placed 68th, Cale Wise placed 80th, Lucy Vosler placed 110th, and Gentry Hall placed 127th.
The Indiana 4-H/ FFA State Crops Judging CDE, Forestry Judging CDE, and Entomology CDE contests were held at Purdue University Saturday, Dec. 10. Teams are coached by their Warsaw FFA Advisors- who are Madelyn Zimmerman and Jacob Riley.
In addition, Warsaw FFA chapter recently competed in the District 2 Chapter Meeting Leadership Development Event Wednesday, Dec. 7, at Warsaw Community High School. The Warsaw FFA Senior Chapter Meeting team had to demonstrate the correct procedures of a chapter meeting, including opening ceremonies, order of business, and closing ceremonies. A few of the skills required in this event include knowledge of parliamentary law and the use of the parliamentary procedure to conduct an orderly and efficient meeting and present logical, realistic, and convincing discussions on the topics presented.
For their effort, the Warsaw FFA Senior Chapter Meeting team earned first place in District 2 and move on to compete at the Section 1 contest held at Triton High School Tuesday, Jan. 17. Members of the team include: Breanna Thompson, Payton Kohler, Alyssa Swanson, Makayla Riley, AJ Truex, Gentry Hall, and Rylan Cooper.
Also, Warsaw FFA chapter recently competed in the District 2 Welding Career Development Event Monday, Dec. 12, at Warsaw Area Career Center’s Welding and Precision Machining Center in Warsaw.
The advanced team placed 4th in the FFA District 2 competition. Individual placings were Alyssa (Ace) Krichbaum (4th) and Thomas Boggs (8th) in the Advanced FFA division.
In the Beginner Division, individual placing of AJ Truex (10th) in the FFA District 2 competition. For the Beginner FFA Division, students had to complete an industry written test along with performing several types of arc welds, such as Arc Lap, Arc Butt, Arc Tee, and Arc Vertical Up. For the Advanced FFA Division, students had to complete an industry written test along with performing several types of Arc and Mig welds, such as Arc Lap, Arc Butt, Mig Vertical Up Tee, Mig Vertical Down, and Mig Pipe to Plate.
WACC Welding Instructors Jeremiah Paseka and Nate Howett, along with Warsaw FFA Chapter Advisor Jacob Riley, coached the team.
