Sidney Man Charged After Entering Three Homes Without Permission
Staff Report
SIDNEY — A Sidney man is facing criminal charges after allegedly entering three homes without permission.
In the first case, Joe Angel Rodriguez, 32, 102 N. Main St., Sidney, is charged with two counts of residential entry, both level 6 felonies; and criminal mischief, a class B misdemeanor. He is also charged with residential entry, a level 6 felony, in a second case.
On Dec. 1, a Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office deputy responded to a report of an unwanted person at a home in North Manchester. A woman said Rodriguez entered her home without permission, but then left.
According to court documents, as deputies were en route, Kosciusko County dispatch said a second caller reported that Rodriguez was now at their home, scratching on their front door with a knife. Deputies arrived, apprehended Rodriguez, and discovered he had a folding knife on his person.
Rodriguez said he was attempting to get personal property from both residences. When asked why he used a knife on the door, Rodriguez allegedly said he wanted to intimidate the residents to open the door.
Deputies then spoke with two individuals who lived at the home where Rodriguez used a knife on the door. The individuals said Rodriguez was asking about keys to a vehicle. When they asked him to leave, Rodriguez forced his way into the residence.
Rodriguez admitted to attempting to force the residence’s door handle and deadbolt open.
The woman who first called law enforcement about Rodriguez said he entered her home three times without permission. Rodriguez admitted to forcing his way into the woman’s home.
On Dec. 4, a Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office sergeant responded to a residential entry report in Sidney. Upon arrival, the sergeant spoke with a man and woman who said they were asleep when they were awakened by Rodriguez.
Rodriguez was trying to talk with the man about a car when he was asked to leave. The man said Rodriguez had never been in his home and did not have permission to enter his residence.
The sergeant then went to Rodriguez’s home. When asked about entering the man’s residence, Rodriguez said he only stood at the front door and that the man’s young son opened the door for him. Rodriguez said he wanted to talk to the man about a car.
Rodriguez has already been arrested on these charges and is in the Kosciusko County Jail after stealing a vehicle belonging to the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office.
