Rodriguez Arrested After Stealing Sheriff’s Vehicle

KOSCIUSKO COUNTY — Joe Angel Rodriguez, 32, 102 N. Main St., Sidney, was released on bond from the Kosciusko County Jail Monday, Dec. 12. But he found himself quickly returning to the Kosciusko County Jail on a charge of theft, a level 6 felony.
Court documents filed today, Wednesday, Dec. 14, state Rodriguez was released on bond Monday on a charge of residential entry. After exiting the front lobby of the sheriff’s office, he attempted to enter one patrol vehicle without success. He then opened the door to an unmarked 2017 Ford Expedition, owned by the county commissioners. He reportedly sat in the vehicle for a short time, then drove away.
Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office First Sgt. Chris McKeand recognized the sheriff’s office vehicle being driven by an unauthorized individual and notified other law enforcement officers. Video surveillance was reviewed and Rodriguez was identified as the person operating the vehicle.
Sheriff’s Sgt. Mike Mulligan located the vehicle and Rodriguez approximately 30 minutes later. After being read his Miranda rights and agreeing to speak with authorities, Rodriguez admitted he was aware the vehicle he had taken was a sheriff’s vehicle. He also allegedly admitted to attempting to take another vehicle prior to stealing the Ford Expedition.
Rodriguez was previously convicted for theft in February 2016.
He is being held on $20,250 surety and cash.
