Silver Lake Man Arrested After Punching Police Officer

SILVER LAKE — A Silver Lake man was arrested after allegedly punching a police officer and recklessly using a firearm.
Paul Raymond Jayne, 57, 305 E. Main St., Silver Lake, is charged with criminal recklessness committed with a deadly weapon and battery against a public safety official, both level 6 felonies.
On Nov. 24, officers with the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office and Claypool Police Department responded to a report of a man shooting a firearm at a location in Silver Lake. A woman told officers Jayne was shooting a gun while inside a garage. The woman said she had been standing near Jayne while he was in the garage when he turned and fired several rounds from a handgun he had.
According to court documents, Jayne said he was shooting at a tin can outside of a garage door. Jayne then punched a Claypool police officer in the chest. The officer and Jayne had a physical struggle, resulting in Jayne being tased and taken into custody.
Jayne has a status conference for this case at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 27, in Kosciusko Superior Court One.
