Warsaw FFA Competes In Forestry, Entomology Competitions

WARSAW — Warsaw FFA recently competed in the Indiana 4-H/FFA Area 10 Career Development Events for the FFA Crops Judging CDE, FFA Forestry Judging CDE and FFA Entomology Judging CDE.
Students that participated in the Crops Judging CDE had to identify seeds and plants from crops and weeds, identify plant diseases and insects, identify common agronomic equipment, take an agronomic industry quiz and grade samples of grain. Warsaw FFA earned a fifth place FFA team ranking in Area 10 in the Senior FFA Division. Individually Thomas Boggs placed fifth, Breanna Thompson placed 16th, AJ Truex placed 33rd and Payton Kohler placed 42nd. This placing qualifies the team for the state contest Saturday, Dec. 10, at Purdue University. Andon Zehring and Isabelle Basham also placed 44th and 46th respectively as individuals in the Senior Division.
Students that participated in the Forestry Judging CDE had to identify tree leaves, tree seeds, wood specimens, along with common tree insects and diseases. They also had to take a forestry industry quiz. Warsaw FFA earned a first place FFA team ranking in Area 10 in the Senior FFA Division. Individually, Rylan Cooper placed first, Jadrien Burge placed second, Makayla Riley placed third and Khloe Hinojosa placed 17th. This placing qualifies the team for the state contest Saturday, Dec. 10, at Purdue University.
Students that participated in the Entomology Judging CDE had to identify insects and their classification orders and had to complete an entomology industry quiz. Warsaw FFA earned a third place FFA team ranking in Area 10 in the Senior FFA Division. Individually, Kendall Gibson placed fourth, Cale Wise placed sixth, Lucy Vosler placed 13th and Gentry Hall placed 18th. This placing qualifies the team for the state contest Saturday, Dec. 10, at Purdue University.
4-H/ FFA Area 10 Crops Judging CDE, Forestry Judging CDE and Entomology CDE contest were held Tuesday evening, Nov. 15, at Knox High School. Teams are coached by their Warsaw FFA Advisors Madelyn Zimmerman and Jacob Riley.
