WALKERTON — Three men were arrested after allegedly firing rifles at a home in Walkerton that injured a child.
Kendric Lee Emerson, 32, 301 Skylane Drive Apartment P8, Plymouth; Donovyn O’Neil Carmack, 22, Mishawaka; and Dalton C. Carmack, 25, 118 High Road, Bremen, are each charged with criminal recklessness, a level 5 felony.
On Oct. 14, officers with the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department responded to a report of individuals shooting at a residence in Walkerton. The caller said a child in the home was injured.
According to court documents, upon arrival at the scene, officers found Emerson and the Carmacks shooting in the direction of the residence. A man who lived at the home told officers a child sustained an injury to their stomach area. The injury was caused by broken glass when one of the bullets penetrated a bedroom window.
Officers found three bullets inside the home and located six markings on the residence’s exterior where it appeared damaged by bullets.
Emerson and the Carmacks said a property owner had given them permission to shoot at an old vehicle sitting near the far northeast corner of the residence.
Emerson and the Carmacks have already been arrested and all have pretrial conferences on Jan. 4, 2023.
